
Description
Lung Yeuk Tau is located as the northeast of fanling railway station, near Luen Wo Hui(聯和墟). Its name is come from the mountain nearby that called Lung Yeuk Lane. “Lung” means dragon in Chinese. Dragon is a myth and traditional animals in olden times in East Asia region. “Yeuk” means the dragon is leaping. “Tau” is a common name of location in village in Hong Kong.
The Lung Yeuk Tau Heritage Trail inaugurated in 1999. It is one of seven heritage trails in the New Territories. It length 2.6km and connect with different heritage sites and villages. The administration and security jobs are provided by Antiquities and Monuments Office.
Villages in Hong Kong:
Villages is commonly found in New Territories, such as Tai Po, North District, Tuen Mun and Yuen Long. The majority of residents in villages are Indigenous. The ancestor of Indigenous were inhabitants before the governance of Britain government before 1898. The indigenous have rights to apply for construct one New Territories Small House(丁屋) if they have enough money and find a suitable place in the village. There are mainly five surname of indigenous, they are: Liu(廖), Tang(鄧), Man(文), Pang(彭), Hou(侯).
